Raspberries

The raspberry belongs to the rose family and is more of an aggregate stone fruit than a berry. The raspberry originally came from Europe and was already known in the Stone Age as the forest raspberry.

In addition to our production in Pulheim-Stommeln, we also cultivate organic raspberries in the German state of Brandenburg.

Cultivation

To ensure an early start to the harvest, the plants are first planted in cold storage. Then field crops and finally Frigo raspberries are harvested. By placing the raspberry plants in the cold, we have delayed growth by several weeks. About twelve weeks before harvest after sowing. As early as this fall, plants produce "pre-flowering" and then harvest the fruit before frost.

One of the oldest fruits

The raspberry is one of the oldest cultivated fruits in Germany. It was already known as a remedy in ancient times. Hildegard von Bingen, who wrote her theory of nutrition in the 12th century, was also a fan of the pink seasonal fruit. For example, she always prepared a porridge from spelt flakes, raspberries, ground almonds and cream and sweetened it with a little cane sugar or honey.
