Strawberries

One of the most popular fruits in Germany is the strawberry. This low-calorie and extremely healthy fruit is available throughout the summer.

At Gut Sonnenberg, strawberries are mainly grown in "Stellagen". In this location, the strawberries are in the air and have no connection to the ground. This protects the fruit from rotting and other risks.

Cultivation method

We grow our strawberries using different methods.

Outdoor cultivation

The traditional way of growing strawberries. The strawberries are planted on small ridges covered with foil. This produces delicious strawberries that are ripe at the end of May.

Cultivation on soil under foil

Growing in foil tunnels helps the strawberries on the ground to ripen faster. In addition, the film protects against various weather conditions and can maintain a higher temperature. The strawberries are watered automatically to prevent overwatering.

Mounting on racks

The strawberries are protected from the ground by the rack and can be picked more easily by our harvesters. Here, too, there is automated irrigation and an excellent climate thanks to the even larger tunnels.

Low-calorie snack

You can eat your fill of strawberries, as 100g of fresh strawberries only have 9-20 calories. But they contain all the more vitamins and minerals. Plenty of vitamin A, B1, B2 and C. They also contain niacin and the minerals potassium, calcium, iron and phosphorus. A real health snack!
